The Witch's Kitchen: A Folk Herbalism Workshop
Salt Lake City, Utah · Sunday, October 25, 2026 · 6–8 PM

Herbal medicine was always held with women. The grandmothers, the witches, the curanderas, the wise women. It was made at home, in the kitchen — with common plants and the knowledge passed hand to hand for generations.

This is that tradition, remembered.

The Witch's Kitchen is a folk herbalism workshop and full moon gathering for women in Salt Lake City who want to learn to make their own herbal medicine at home. On the night of the Hunter's Full Moon, we come together to make Fire Cider — one of the most beloved and time-honored remedies in folk herbalism.

What is Fire Cider?

Fire Cider is a traditional herbal tonic made by infusing warming, pungent roots and kitchen herbs in apple cider vinegar. Garlic, onion, horseradish, ginger, hot pepper, elderberry, and more!

It has been used across folk traditions for centuries. Everywhere apples grow, people made apple cider vinegar and used it as medicine. Rosemary Gladstar — one of the great teachers of Western herbalism — brought the recipe forward in the 1980s with a simple and enduring philosophy: this medicine belongs to everyone.

Plants are for the people. They always have been.

What we'll do together:

We open in circle, setting intentions and connecting to the full moon and the turning season. Then we move to the kitchen and make our own varieties of Fire Cider side by side, learning the folk method: simple, no-nonsense, and effective. We talk about each plant as we go — what it does, why it was chosen, how to use it through fall and winter.

We close the evening with a shared herbal tea ceremony, back in circle, under the rising full moon.

What you'll take home:

Two jars of Fire Cider you made with your own hands — one classic recipe and one variation. All supplies are included. You bring nothing but yourself.

Who this is for:

This workshop is for women who are curious about plants and herbal medicine, who want to learn to care for themselves and their families with simple, accessible remedies, and who love to gather in community — especially on the full moon. No prior experience with herbalism is needed. This is beginner-friendly folk medicine at its most approachable.

Space is limited to 10 women.

"By its nature, herbal medicine defies ownership." — Rosemary Gladstar
